Beyond the crisis at the TUC today

The TUC has helpfully produced a video of today’s conference with yours truly, Gillian Tett of the Financial Times, Dave Prentis, General Secretary of UNISON, and John Kay, also a columnist on the Financial Times. It was a truly stimulating session, and you can watch it here.

    I agree with your verdict, Ann, but also would draw attention to the workshop you presented with Richard Murphy (also on the same

    site)and your exposition of the money system which is the best and clearest I have heard.

    It is not money which brings resources into

    existence, money is the means by which resources (including labour) can be mobilised. So I agree completely that to say we cannot afford mental

    health services, say, because ‘there is no money’ is absurd when the facilities, the medicines and the staff are there and ready to be used.
